Troubleshooting problems with software and hardware installation and use

Design Fails to open – On another computer that will open the design, remove audio files from audio player and save design.
Audio files not playing – Try loading wav file in place of mp3 file. Select Tools | Volumes, double-click on audio player and browse to select wav file. Remove mp3 files.
Error “Configure Control Panel” –
•Press NeuroPuzzles/Flash button to say BioPLAY before starting session.
•Start session first; start game second
•Slow moving signal needs special calculation to keep inputs from being on or off for greater than 3 seconds. Check with design developer.
•In Window | Signal Diagram assure Flash player inputs have
○In3- Ratio/Range (0-1)
Unable to play games – Open game from within BioExplorer’s Flash player. If no flash player is present, one must be added and have correct inputs.
Software works intermittently with Windows 8.1 – UNRESOLVED It may have something to do with the way BioExplorer and BxShadow work on Windows 8 and needs a fix.
Does not install – Do a manual installation. Request the manual version of the BxShadow installation folder from Brain-Trainer. Extract files then copy the BxShadow folder and Paste into C:\. The path will be C:\BxShadow. You can now make a shortcut. Here is a video showing the installation process:
Captions not showing – Select Instruments, uncheck and recheck Show Captions.
Signal not playing in design –
•Select BioExplorer | Devices, see that only one device is checked in the Device Manager. Uncheck extras.
•Select Window | Signal Diagram, right-click Source and select Properties. Press dropdown button to select correct device from menu. Save design.
•Set training options with buttons before starting session
Chrome, unable to download exe files from Brain-Trainer –
1. In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the Chrome menu.
2. Select Settings.
3. Click Show advanced settings.
4. Under “Privacy,” deselect the “Enable phishing and malware protection” checkbox.
Macro not working –
○Select File | Options | Trust Center
○Select Macro settings and select Disable all macros with notification
○Click Message bar. Click “Show the Message Bar in all applications when active content…etc.”
•Do computer search. Type in search field: *.exd Delete any .exd files. Then reboot computer.
•Compatibility issues with versions of Excel may require fixes. Please email brain-trainer with problem, error, screen shot if possible
Run-time error – Send email to brain-trainer with exact wording of error and the file you are using for troubleshooting.
Error: There was a problem sending the command to the program – Select File | Options | General section- Advanced | Check Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) check box
You may see a flash error message: “Adobe Flash Player Settings Local storage local is requesting permission to store information on your computer.” When you try to click “Allow” it seems to be frozen.

Here are instructions:
First change settings in the Control Panel.
Control Panel | Flash Player (32bit) | Storage tab | “Allow sites to save information on this computer”
If it’s already selected, then click “Local Storage Settings by Site”, then click “Add”, type local in the “Website Domain” field and select “Allow” in the “When this site wants to use local storage” drop-down box. Then click “OK” and “Close” and restart your computer.”
Next change settings in the Settings Manager panel:
Global Storage Settings: 10 MB
Global Security Settings: Always allow
Edit locations | Add location | Browse for files | Go to BioExplorer\Flash and select all HeadGames flash files (swf for LIFE, DAM, etc.).
Website Privacy Settings: Scroll down to local, select it and click Always allow.
Website Storage Settings: Scroll down to local, select it and click Always allow.
Signal fluctuating wildly – Headband or headband cable likely defective
Q-wiz Orange HEG light does not stop flashing –
•Unplug Wiz and plug in again
Intermittent connection – Faulty headband/cable
Peanut, signal flat line, timer not running –Select Window | Signal Diagram | right-click and select Properties. Select PN Pendant EEG Ch 1
Strange numbers for HEG signal –
•Pendant/Pocket- assure button in corner is selected for your device.
•Select Window | Signal Diagram | right-click and select Properties. Select correct device from dropdown menu
•Change Regional Option settings. Go into your computer’s Control Panel and choose the category for Regional and Language Options. You want to check the formatting of numbers. This is usually found near the bottom of the formatting page Additional Settings The first option is decimal signal. That should be a period, NOT a comma. Many parts of the world use a comma here. If so, change it to “.” The third option is digit grouping. This must be a comma, NOT a period. Change if necessary. Then click OK to save the settings.
Q-wiz session, game dives when it should be climbing – Use 4 Channel Mode (in Wiz window)
X-wiz, game dives when it should be climbing – Use EEG mode (in Wiz window)
•Wiz with cable – Unplug PN wireless dongle
•Mac with Vmware – Vmware is virtual (“pretending to run Windows”), not Windows on a partitioned drive like Boot Camp. Packets of data are lost through COM port due to the way it works on Mac. Boot Camp is recommended.
bps drops to 0 when plugging in electrodes – Turn off bluetooth mouse

MIDI sounds not heard, Mac, Parallels, Windows 8 –
Windows 8 is phasing out MIDI sounds. You will need to install a MIDI device.
1. Install a MIDI device such as open source virtual MIDI synthesizer http://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/virtualmidisynth
2. Add Soundfonts and follow their guide to overwrite the default MIDI synthesizer.
3. In BioExplorer, choose the MIDI (e.g. CoolSoft VirtualMIDISynth) as Default MIDI Device in BioExplorer | Preferences | Audio
Video has no sound – Select Tools | Volumes | double-click on Video player. In Volume, set level above 0.
Volumes tool is not found – Select Tools | Volumes; press Alt + Space + M, click and drag the tool into view (or use arrow keys)
